Important issue for Noho and Easthampton voters
Submitted by mgknitz on Tue, 08/25/2009 - 11:16am.
The N’ton landfill expansion is an important environmental issue
that will face voters this fall. Not all N’ton gov’t officials are
giving full, unbiased information regarding the impact of the proposed
expansion. The local newspaper is not covering the issue objectively.
As a result folks need to educate themselves as to both sides of the
issue.
Members of the Noho city council wants to place the decision of
whether to issue a permit to expand the landfill in the hands of a
non-elected body.
Tell the city council that the decision is too large to be entrusted to a non-elected gov’tal department.
The landfill was originally cited on Glendale road not because the site was environmentally appropriate – it is not.
As I understand it, the landfill was sited on Glendale Road because the area was a low-income area.
The expansion of the landfill over an aquifer is not consistent with Noho’s progressive, liberal ideals.
